Instruction & Games Begin January 6, 2024
All games are played at Lake Norman Elementary on Saturday mornings.
"Games" are structured to include 30 minutes of instruction and 30 minutes of scrimmage
Teams are Co-ed
Kindergarten Rules
Kindergarten is coed and instructional. The general premise of this age is introduction to basketball. The practice/game sessions are generally one hour, with the first thirty minutes being devoted purely to skills and the second thirty minutes being a coach-assisted walk-through game.
1. 7’ goals
2. 27.0 “junior” sized basketball
3. No pressing at any time
4. No fast break at any time
5. Defensive zone to be 4’ wide and 10’ deep at each basket
6. No clock, coaches will decide when to start the walk-through and when to close practice
7. No set substitution policy since there is no clock, coaches move players in and out during the walk-through games, keeping in mind the goal is to play each player an equal amount of time but recognizing that at this age, “stage fright” often results in some children who do not want to participate at all.
8. No score board, emphasis on the kids learning where to go and how to transition from one segment of the game to the next
9. The spirit of the general rules from above applies, but no specific rules are actually enforced
2022 Schedule will be posted mid-December. Games begin January 8, 2022 and run through late February.
Hi Kindergarten Families, we're excited about our 2024 season!
We will keep registration open through December 1st, so please invite your friends to register at www.siaasports.com.
After registration ends, we'll post team rosters and send out the schedule. Games will begin January 6th. Our Kindergarten program is instructional, and consists of 30 minutes of practice/drills, and 30 minutes scrimmaging another team on Saturday mornings. It's a fun way to learn some new skills.
We will need a few head coaches, so please register as a volunteer at www.siaasports.com. If you've already registered as an assistant but would be willing to step up to head coach, please let me know. Thank you! |
